Artists For Obama Sign Event, Thursday, February 28th
2/19/2008 11:09:32 AM
A group of inspired local Obama supporters are using their artistic talents to support their candidate. Due to the frenzy of support the Obama campaign has received in previous primary states, there has been a shortage of campaign signs for the upcoming Ohio primary. Printers simply cannot keep up with the demand. Local designer, Angie Wilson, saw a need and has organized a solution. She is holding an open event on Thursday, February 28th to hand paint Obama campaign yard signs. Local artists are invited to come out and do their artistic interpretation of an Obama campaign sign to be distributed throughout the Cincinnati area.
The event will be held downtown Thursday, February 28th from - Local artists supporting Obama are invited, as well as other supporters who would like to help assemble and distribute the signs. Local Obama supporters are welcome to come and connect with fellow supporters over a cup of Starbucks coffee and also take home a campaign sign. The remaining signs will be delivered to the Cincinnati Obama headquarters at 1524 Madison Rd. in Walnut Hills and will be distributed throughout the weekend before the primary on Tuesday, March 4th."We hope to create 50 unique campaign signs during the 3 hour event", says Ms. Wilson. "Local musicians like Freekbass and Buffalo Killers will be hanging out in support for the Obama campaign, so it should be a pretty festive event.
Starbucks has donated coffee for the event and Catered By The Cup is donating coffee services, including hot chocolate and Chai tea for volunteers. Local musician, Freekbass is co-hosting the event and is donating all the sign materials, as well as promoting the event on his website: www.FreekbassForObama08.com . Cincinnati City Council candidate, Brian Garry, has donated the space for the event, a storefront and future home of The Green Depot, a green building supplies retail store, opening June 2008. Great weekend ! Me and the fellas had a rockin' show in Indianapolis, and the Barack Obama campaign swept 4 more states and the Virgin Islands. Other people can spin it however they like, but something pretty cool is happening! Thanks to everyone from Washington to Maine who came out and showed support.
And to my fellow Ohioans: March 4th is right around the corner. Looking forward to casting my vote in the primary.
I have never been one to mix entertainment and politics. Though I have always had my opinion, and I do always vote, never have I felt the urgency to campaign for any particular candidate in the political arena... until now. This is my way of doing whatever I can to support Presidential hopeful, Barack Obama.
The 2008 presidential election will possibly be one of the most important elections in a generation. Yes, I can be the typical jaded and cynical musician, but this is a moment in history we will never face again, so I feel I cannot just sit on the sidelines. Barack Obama is one of those rare individuals that meets the needs of our time. I urge you to research this candidate at his website, www.barackobama.com, and also take the opportunity to listen to him speak.
I hope you will come to the same conclusion I have, that Barack Obama is the right person to serve as the next President of the United States. Please get involved in your state's primary process and join me in electing Obama as our nominee for the Democatic party candidate and ultimately President in the general election. Join me in supporting Barack Obama: volunteer in your town or log on to his website to make a donation. I realize I am just one voice, but as Dr. King said, and Barack Obama echoes in his speeches, this is the "fierce urgency of now".
I will be giving away "Freekbass for Obama '08" T-shirts and stickers at upcoming Freekbass shows while we are on tour. These special Obama '08 shows and events will be posted here, and I invite all friends, fans, and Obama supporters to come together in this wave of support.
